Post-operative & medical massage

Careful work, at your recovery’s pace.

After surgery, the area that was operated on is only part of the story. Guarding, limping and weeks of reduced movement change how the whole body works, and those compensation patterns can contribute to new aches far from the surgical site. Medical massage with Carlos Blain, LMT, addresses both: the recovering area, handled with care, and the patterns around it.

Carlos brings a physical therapy background from Venezuela — where he studied the field and worked as a physical therapy assistant — plus about 15 years of massage experience and training at the Swedish Institute in New York. Sessions are goal-led and responsive, and they follow your surgeon’s guidance.

Who this is for

Who post-operative massage supports.

Post-operative and medical massage often helps people recovering from:

  • Knee and hip replacementRebuilding comfortable movement while addressing the guarding patterns that often develop around a new joint.
  • Shoulder and rotator cuff surgeryGentle, progressive work as range of motion returns, with attention to the neck and upper back that often compensate.
  • Back and spine proceduresCareful work around — never on — healing structures, focused on the hips, legs and patterns that load the back.
  • Sports surgeriesACL, meniscus and labrum repairs: support for the return-to-training path once your surgeon clears hands-on work.
  • Cosmetic and reconstructive recoverySouth Florida is a center for post-surgical recovery; gentle, lymphatic-focused work can support the process once you are cleared.
  • Chronic conditions needing medical massageGoal-led therapeutic work focused on a specific condition, area or functional limitation.
How Carlos works

Assessment first. Treatment second.

Safety sets the sequence. Carlos will ask about your surgery, your surgeon’s instructions and any restrictions before any hands-on work — and if you do not yet have clearance, he will tell you to get it first.

In session, assessment is continuous and gentle: contractions, scar tissue as it matures, adhesions, tissue chains and compensation patterns. Pressure, positioning and technique all adapt to your healing stage. As with every service here, pricing is by time — medical and post-operative work carries no technique surcharge.

Do you offer massage after surgery in Fort Lauderdale? When can I start?
Yes — post-operative massage is a core part of Carlos’s practice, and it always starts with your surgeon’s clearance. Timing depends on the procedure and your healing stage; once you are cleared, sessions are paced by your recovery and your surgeon’s instructions.
What surgeries do clients most often come in after?
Knee and hip replacements, shoulder and rotator cuff repairs, spine procedures, sports surgeries such as ACL and meniscus repairs, and cosmetic or reconstructive procedures. Each is handled differently — the consultation covers your specific surgery and restrictions first.
Do you offer lymphatic drainage after surgery?
Yes — gentle lymph drainage is one of the techniques Carlos draws on, used when it fits your surgeon’s plan and your stage of healing. It is included in your session time, never sold as an add-on.
Can I use my HSA card for post-operative massage?
Yes. Carlos accepts HSA cards, along with credit cards, Zelle, Venmo, Cash App and Apple Cash. He does not bill insurance directly.
How much does post-operative massage cost in Fort Lauderdale?
At Carlos Blain LMT, pricing is by time, not technique: in-office sessions are $180 for 60 minutes and $230 for 90 minutes; in-home sessions are $230 for 60 minutes and $310 for 90 minutes. First visits are $20 off, and HSA cards are accepted.
